LexolSummit Industries, Inc. is one of Atlanta's oldest, privately held companies with origins going back to the 1920's. Summit's first product was Creomulsion Cough Medicine, a product they still manufacture today. In 1954, Creomulsion for Children was introduced and sales doubled in the next few years. In 1963, Summit Industries purchased the Corona Manufacturing Company, a manufacturer of antiseptic ointments for both human and animal use. Sales continued to increase through the 1960's primarily in the equestrian market. In 1977, Summit Industries purchased the Lexol Company, a small, New Jersey company with a wonderful reputation for making a superior leather conditioner. Lexol complimented Corona in the equestrian market and allowed Summit Industries to expand into the shoe repair, luggage and automotive markets. In the 1980's, extensive research into the process of tanning leather resulted in a refinement of the Leather Conditioner formula and the introduction of Lexol-pH Leather Cleaner and Lexol-nf Non-Greasy Neatsfoot Formula for the equestrian industry. Vinylex, a companion product for protecting vinyl, rubber and plastic was introduced in 1991 after ten years of extensive research and development. Today, Summit Industries manufacturers and distributes sixteen different product lines which include 46 items and sizes in over 40 countries around the world. Summit's commitment to absolute highest quality in each of the markets in which it operates has allowed the company to thrive for more than 80 years. |
