New, 6-1/2 inch, CCS Technology
Pads for use on conventional
and scratch-resistant clear coats.

Hi-Gloss, 6-1/2 inch, CCS Pads for conventional and scratch-resistant clear coats.

European and domestic automakers are in the process of changing over to super-hard, scratch-resistant, clear coats. DuPont has recently released it's SupraShield™ scratch resistant clear coat and PPG has followed with their Optech™ and CeramiClear™ clear coats. In 2005, Mercedes Benz switched to a nano, ceramic clear coat. This is on all cars with a paint code that starts with "C". Volvo has started using a scratch resistant clear on their top models in 2006 and hopes to have all models switched by the end of 2006.

These new, harder, clear coats are scratch resistant, not scratch proof. The problem is, when scratched, conventional pads and polishes may not have the power to remove the defect. Several manufacturers, Menzerna of Germany and a joint-venture with BLACKFIRE in the U.S. have brought new polishes and compounds to market designed to remove swirls, spots and scratches in these harder clear coats. That left one area still in need of improvement - the foam pads.

Lake Country Manufacturing, the world's largest manufacturer of foam polishing pads, has spent the last two years working with automakers in Europe, Canada, the U.S. and Mexico and with polish suppliers (specifically Menzerna of Germany) to develop a new generation of foam polishing pads. The result is a patented technology they call CCS, Collapsed Cell Structures. This technology, which puts a pattern of collapsed "dimples" on the surface of the pad, can be used with all of Lake Country's European, engineered foams.  While developed for the new super-hard, scratch-resistant clear coats, CCS pads can also be used on conventional paints and clear coats. These new pads have been tested and approved at the OEM level and were introduced to the after market at Automechanika in Frankfort, Germany, in September of 2006 and at the International Autobody Congress & Exposition,(NACE), Las Vegas, NV. in November of 2006.

These new, CCS Pads are in very tight supply due to strong, worldwide OEM demand.  Classic Motoring Accessories is very proud to have been chosen by Lake Country Manufacturing as the initial domestic supplier of CCS Technology pads for the enthusiast, U.S. market.

What is CCS Technology?

The newer, harder, scratch-resistant clear coats require longer polishing times to remove swirls, spots and defects. The longer you polish with conventional foam pads, the less effective they become because polish migrates below the working surface of the pad. The pad "dries out."

CCS Technology solves this problem using strategic patterns of partially closed foam cells. These cells slow the rate of polish absorption, gradually releasing polish as needed by the operator. CCS Pockets reduce surface tension, prevent pad skipping and allow the operator to run the pad flat on the working surface.

Professional results, even if you're a beginner!

CCS Pads feature two, additional, design innovations. First, they continue to incorporate the latest, Constant Pressure™ technology.

Constant pressure may not be good for people but it's great for polishing pads where you want a uniform and constant pressure on the surface being polished. Professionals have learned through experience to keep their machines parallel to the surface being polished. Tilting the machine in any direction can result in an uneven and excessive pressure being transferred to the painted surface.

Blue "Constant Pressure" foam backing
absorbs unwanted polishing motions.

This new, patented, Constant Pressure technology uses a layer of engineered, instant rebound foam between the pad and the backing plate to absorb off-axis movements while keeping the pressure of the pad on the surface constant.

The other patented, innovation incorporated in CCS Pads are a curved outer edge. The curvature on the outer edge of the pad allows easy transitions over seams and  inclines.

These pads do not have a traditional "polish pocket" because the CCS Cells regulate polish release, reduce splatter and eliminate paint "squiggles."

Whether you're a novice or a seasoned professional, these pads will yield consistently excellent results.

Here's a guide to help you select the correct pad for your needs:

Note: We also offer three, specially priced, 6.5 inch, CCS Technology, Pad Kits that cover a variety of detailing situations.

Hook and Loop Back-Up Plate - All of our pads have a VELCRO® brand loop backing that require your machine be fitted with a 5 or 6 inch, hook and loop Backing Plate. This plate may or may not have come with your polisher. If you require a backing plate, this 6 Inch Flexible Backing Plate is our favorite. It's a professional quality plate that provides maximum grip on any of our 6-1/2 or 7-1/2 inch pads. The 5/16-24 threaded shaft fits the Porter Cable 7424, 7336 and most other dual-action polishers. New, 6-1/2 inch, CCS Technology Pads for use on conventional and scratch-resistant clear coats.

Hook and Loop Back-up Plate allows
quick and easy pad changes.

White, CCS Polishing Pad - The most often used pad. This pad has a mild cutting (cleaning) action and should be used to apply light compounds, polishes and one-step, cleaner/waxes. Use this Hi-Gloss White, CCS Polishing Pad with  BLACKFIRE Gloss Enhancing Polish  to maximize surface gloss.

New, 6-1/2 inch, CCS Technology Pads for use on conventional and scratch-resistant clear coats.

Do not use the same pad for applying different products. If applying a polish and a cleaner/wax, use one pad to apply the polish and a separate pad to apply the cleaner/wax.

Note: Polishing pads can "cake-up" with residues reducing their effectiveness. If you don't want to stop in the middle of polishing to clean pads, plan on using 2 or 3 pads to polish the average car. Don't let polish residues dry in the pad. When you remove a dirty pad from your machine, immediately place it in a bucket of soapy (car wash shampoo) water or use a pad cleaner such as Snappy Clean Pad Cleaning Powder.

Yellow, CCS Compounding Pad - More aggressive cutting action than the white pad. Use this pad to compound older vehicles with a dull, chalky or neglected finish.

Use this pad with caution. Compounding can dull the surface (called compounding haze) which will require additional finish polishing to remove.

Use this Hi-Gloss Yellow Compounding Pad with Menzerna Intensive Polish to remove swirls or paint defects that do not come out with the white pad. After compounding, go over the surface with BLACKFIRE Gloss Enhancing Polish  using the white polishing pad. This will restore surface gloss and prepare the paint for glazing or waxing. This is the most aggressive pad we offer that is still safe for clear coat finishes (when used with a dual-action polisher).

Black, CCS Glazing/Finessing Pad - This pad has no cutting or cleaning action. It should be used to apply a glaze or a finessing polish.

Use this Hi-Gloss Black Glazing Pad to apply Menzerna Finishing Touch Glaze.

Red, CCS Finishing Pad
- Like the grey pad, this red pad has no cutting or cleaning action. This new, incredibly fine, European foam was introduced in 2004 for applying the final liquid wax or paint sealant. While made for the OEM market and demanding enthusiast, this easy-to-use, Hi-Gloss Red Finishing Pad glides over the surface creating a mirror-like shine.

This is also the pad to use for layering one wax or sealant on top of another or for building up multiple layers of shine.

Proper Cleaning - Wash foam pads in a bucket of car wash, soapy water (or use Snappy Clean Pad Cleaner), rinse thoroughly, hand squeeze out excess water and allow to air dry. Do not clean pads or soak pads in dishwashing soap (Dawn) or laundry detergents. Do not machine wash or machine dry.  Push pads against a flat surface to push out water. Do not wring dry.

Terry & microfiber bonnets can be washed in warm water with a mild laundry detergent or Micro-Restore. Air dry. Do not use bleach or a fabric softener.
